چکیده

We present the results of 3D hydrodynamic simulations gamma-ray burst (GRB) jet emanating from a massive star with particular focus on formation high-velocity quasi-spherical ejecta and jet-induced chemical mixing. Recent early-time optical observations supernovae associated GRBs (e.g., GRB 171205A/SN 2017iuk) indicate considerable amount heavy metals in outer layers ejecta. Using our simulations, we show that density structure implied by can be naturally reproduced powerful penetrating progenitor star. consider three representative models stripped star, standard jet, weak choked an extended circumstellar medium, to clarify differences dynamical evolution properties ejected materials. The successfully penetrates creates component (cocoon). mixing significantly contaminates cocoon elements have been otherwise embedded inner layer fail produce ultra-relativistic but different properties. discuss impact jet-star interactions expected electromagnetic signatures long how probe dynamics observations.

The Supernovae Associated with Gamma-Ray Bursts

Supernovae (SNe) were long suspected as possible progenitors of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). The arguments relied on circumstantial evidence. Several recent GRBs, notably GRB 030329, have provided direct, spectroscopic evidence that SNe and GRBs are related. The SNe associated with GRBs are all of Type Ic, implying a compact progenitor, which has implications for GRB models. Other peculiar Type Ic ...

Supernovae and Gamma-Ray Bursts

Supernovae are explosions of stars which are triggered either by the implosion of the core of a star or a thermonuclear runaway, causing a bright optical display lasting for weeks to years. This chapter first explains the main explosion types, how they are classified and the principles that determine their lightcurves. It then discusses in more detail some of the most important supernova types,...

Gamma-Ray Bursts and Jet-Powered Supernovae

The last five years have seen growing challenges to the traditional paradigm of a core collapse supernova powered by the neutrino emission of a young proto-neutron star. Chief among these challenges are gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and the supernovae that seem to accompany them. Here we review some recent and not so recent models for GRBs and supernovae in which strong magnetic fields, rotation, or ...

Supernovae, Gamma-Ray Bursts, and Stellar Rotation

One of the most dramatic possible consequences of stellar rotation is its influence on stellar death, particularly of massive stars. If the angular momentum of the iron core when it collapses is such as to produce a neutron star with a period of 5 ms or less, rotation will have important consequences for the supernova explosion mechanism. Still shorter periods, corresponding to a neutron star r...

Compton-dragged Gamma-Ray Bursts Associated with Supernovae.

It is proposed that the gamma-ray photons that characterize the prompt emission of gamma-ray bursts are produced through the Compton-drag process, which is caused by the interaction of a relativistic fireball with a very dense soft photon bath. If gamma-ray bursts are indeed associated with supernovae, then the exploding star can provide enough soft photons for radiative drag to be effective. T...
